GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The School Counselor is responsible for providing academic and clinical support to Arlington School students as determined by the needs of the program. Depending on areas of expertise, the School Counselor will be expected to offer tutorial help in academic subjects, as well as to independently develop and implement school initiatives that foster continuous school growth. The School Counselor will function as an Academic Advisor to a small group of students to work on issues of Executive Function and academic organization. Tasks of the School Counselor can also include covering a class in a teacher's absence, working 1:1 with students to foster academic success, providing incidental counseling to students as requested by licensed counselors or administrative staff and collaborating in the provision of Physical Education activities for students.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Support teachers in implementation of curriculum instruction 2. Supports teachers in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment 3. Co-teaches elective classes in areas of mutual interest 4. Provides independent Academic Advising for small group of students 5. Independently manages projects for school improvement, as assigned 6. Assists with clinical groups with clinical staff 7. Facilitates students' transitions between classes and throughout the building 8. Supervises classes during teachers' absences 9. Models appropriate social cues and body language 10. Participates and shares information in meetings 11. Performs additional duties as assigned 12. Responsive to issues presented in supervision 13. Exhibits positive behavior towards students, parents and staff 14. Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency
