Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions |
The department of Biomedical Sciences delivers most of the didactic courses in basic sciences to
DDS and
IDS students. As needed, the faculty also give courses to dental hygiene studies. Faculty are also encouraged to participate in academic activities in the department, such as journal clubs, seminars, and informal meetings to plan research projects.
Main courses deliver content in biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, anatomy, microbiology, immunology. Courses are given in lecture rooms, via online teaching, and in the anatomy lab. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Knowledge of:
- Modern pedagogical concepts and application in health professions education.
- Trends in oral health and medical sciences.
- Word, Excel, Outlook, Canvas, SharePoint, Zoom, Microsoft Teams.
Ability to:
- Give lectures in the biomedical sciences, especially anatomy.
- Pursue research activities that can engage students and the clinical faculty in research and scholarship.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years higher education teaching experience in biomedical sciences, preferably anatomy.
- Residency or graduate training or postdoctoral research may be substituted for some of this two-year teaching experience.
Education:
- PhD in anatomy or related discipline in biomedical sciences and/or DDS/DMD from an ADA-accredited school of dentistry.
Working Conditions:
- Workload varies quarter to quarter but is assigned by the Department Co-Chairs in consultation with the faculty member. Emphasis is placed on balancing the academic requirements of teaching, scholarship, and service over the course of each year.
- Specific workload and scheduling will be adjusted based on the department needs.
- In addition to scheduled assignments, professional activities outside the school (presentations, consulting, etc.) will be supported and encouraged.

Physical Requirements |

Hiring Range |
$30 - $35 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
