Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Graphic Design. We seek a passionate and experienced individual to join our dynamic faculty team.
The College of the Pacific is hiring across multiple fields this year and seeks to bring in a cohort of new faculty to build upon and elevate our existing interdisciplinary focus areas: Environment and sustainability; Law and policy; Physical and mental health and wellness; Communication, art and design. The successful candidate in the Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design will collaborate with colleagues to further develop student-centered programs in one or more of those interdisciplinary areas.
We are searching for a tenure-track assistant professor in Graphic Design who will contribute to our vibrant academic community. The successful candidate will teach a range of courses within the Graphic Design program, engage in the College's first-year seminar program, and develop general education courses with broad appeal. In addition, we seek a candidate who will contribute to our department's engagement with digital and emerging media, enhancing our curriculum and preparing students for the evolving landscape of graphic design.
Full time TT faculty teach a minimum of 20 units (typically 5 courses) per year, advise students, conduct research/creative activities and participate in departmental and program service. One of the classes serves the university first-year program.

The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design ( AMPD) is committed to excellence in undergraduate education, offering future artists, designers, performers and media makers a rewarding program in a personal, supportive and collaborative environment. Our department is integrated within the College of the Pacific's distinctive liberal arts program, the historical hallmark of our university.
The College is conducting searches for tenure-track assistant professors in Graphic Design; Psychology; and Public Health. We seek to bring in a strong cohort of dynamic colleagues to join our current faculty in building on our existing strengths and developing programs, curricula, and learning experiences that prepare our students for success.

This position begins 8/15/2025.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A terminal degree (MFA, PhD, or equivalent) in Graphic Design or a closely related field.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
  • A strong portfolio of creative work in graphic design.
  • Ability to develop and teach a variety of courses within the Graphic Design curriculum.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and student-centered teaching.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Schedule is dependent on course and department needs.
Hiring Range $72,000.00 per year to $74,000.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an off
