The School of Public Affairs and Administration (
SPAA) at the Newark Campus of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, seeks candidates for three positions to begin in the Fall of 2025: (1) A tenure-track assistant professor position, specializing in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. Areas of interest include board governance, leadership and strategic management, fundraising and resource development, social entrepreneurship, philanthropy, volunteer administration, and program evaluation. (2) A tenure-track or tenured faculty position (Assistant or Associate Professor with tenure), specializing in Emerging Technologies and Digital Governance. Areas of interest include artificial intelligence use in the public sector, Big Data, emerging technologies, digital transformation and innovation, technology policy, Civic Tech, and the ethical implications of digital government. (3) A tenure-track assistant professor position, specializing in Public Management. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to collaborative governance, emergency management, performance management, policy and program evaluation, health care administration, and local government administration. Research in non-U.S. or comparative contexts is welcome.
Successful candidates will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Experience with, or interest in, teaching students with diverse cultural backgrounds is also important.
The appointee will become a core faculty member in a
NASPAA-accredited public administration program that is ranked 7th nationally in Urban Policy, 8th in Public Management and Leadership, 10th in Nonprofit Management by U.S. News and World Report and holds two other top-25 rankings in Public Affairs and Administration. Rutgers
SPAA ranked #5 in the nation, #10 in the world for Public Administration by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
SPAA was ranked No. 7 Worldwide for Public Administration in the 2023 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

SPAA actively engages with the nonprofit and government communities in the greater Newark metro area. The School offers an undergraduate major in public and nonprofit administration, an on-campus
MPA, a fully online
MPA, an Executive
MPA, and a research-oriented Ph.D. Faculty are also involved in several certificate programs. Total enrollment is more than 500 degree and non-degree students. Teaching and published research are each important to the School.

Minimum Education and Experience |
Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in public administration or a related field at the time of appointment. Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
