Job Summary Within one of the nation's most transformative universities, SJSU's Student Wellness Center (SWC) fosters student opportunity in a revolutionary way by preparing students to maintain lifelong health and well-being. The Student Wellness Center (SWC) provides a variety of medical services, similar to outpatient care provided in a large medical group practice. These services for students include primary and urgent/acute care; evaluation, treatment, and guidance for individual health concerns; family planning services, nutrition, sports medicine; public health prevention programs, and health education. In addition, the Student Wellness Center provides psychiatric services for students which may include diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric illness. Receiving operational direction from the Lead Physician and reporting to the Health Services Director, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works independently to provide medical care for common and uncommon psychiatric illness and medical illness with a psychiatric component. Medical care can include a physical examination, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of psychiatric illness, ordering tests and interpreting the results, counseling patients on preventive care and preventive and health maintenance services. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner may, when appropriate, refer students to other practitioners within the SJSU Wellness Center or refer to community resources for more extensive follow-up and treatment. All staff are expected to conform to CSU, State, and Federal regulations and laws and operate within the scope of the program established by the Board of Trustees. Working collegially and collaboratively to support student success is the bottom line purpose of this and all Student Wellness Center positions. Key Responsibilities
