The Shen Lab, a molecular neurobiology laboratory at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, seeks a Technical Research Assistant (TRA) to participate in exciting research on elucidating mechanisms of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases using genetic approaches. This is an opportunity for someone looking to work in a rigorous academic research setting on projects that may lead to novel therapeutic treatments for these neurodegenerative diseases. This position is ideal for recent college graduates looking to expand their knowledge and experience before pursuing a graduate program. Opportunities for hands on experiments include PCR, RT-PCR, Western blotting, Northern blotting, cell culture, histology, microscopy, mouse and fly brain dissection, stereotaxic injection, mouse behavioral testing, and mouse colony maintenance. Our research assistants are encouraged to participate in all scientific aspects of the lab and are provided training and mentorship to help them achieve their career goals. Previous candidates for this position have had the opportunity to conduct their own research experiments and contribute to ongoing research projects in a meaningful way, resulting in co-authorship on published papers.
