General Summary

UFP Industries is seeking a Sr Data Engineer to assist in building tools and processes to bring data together to drive business decisions and efficiencies. The ideal candidate in this role has considerable experience with data engineering projects for a large-scale operation. This individual will be able to assist us in bringing our out-of-date OLAP data architecture to the next level, and develop tooling to help us solve critical business problems. This position is a full-time, onsite position, based out of Grand Rapids, MI and is NOT a remote position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds data pipelines which acquire, cleanse, transform and publish data from a wide variety of structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Assembles complex data sets which meets functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Partners with developers, IT infrastructure, and IT leadership to ensure technical solutions provide accurate, performant, and reliable data.
  • Contribute to and leverage coding standards and best practices to ensure efficient and re-usable services and components.
  • Identify, document, design, and implement internal process improvements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain both the front-end and back-end components of web applications using .NET, C#, and modern front-end frameworks.
  • Collaborate with developers and product owners to define project requirements and deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot and debug full-stack applications across multiple layers to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, following industry best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving development processes.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies, industry trends, and best practices, ensuring our solutions remain innovative and cutting-edge.

Job Specifications

Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience contributing to data modeling or architecture
  • Strong data analysis and debugging skills
  • Proven experience in Python/PySpark, SQL/SparkSQL programming skills
  • Has experience working with C# and OOP
  • Preferred 7+ years of experience building enterprise-grade data processing systems.
  • Preferred Databricks Professional level certification

Working Conditions

Working environment is generally favorable. Requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time. Some traveling is required.
