Associate General Counsel

The Associate General Counsel provides legal counsel and guidance to the Corporation and its subsidiaries and supports the overall activities of the Office of General Counsel and Compliance Program.

  • Provides advice, directs, and performs general corporate legal work including review and revision of corporate charters and bylaws, contracts, board resolutions; personnel and labor relations issues; real estate transactions and leases; and tax and estate planning as directly related to the activities of MJHS and related corporations.

  • Provides advice, directs, and performs health law related legal work including legal issues relating to access to medical and other records, credentialing, consent to treatment, managed care, reimbursement rates, and state and federal regulations for MJHS and related corporations.

  • Provides legal advice and counsel to the President, members of Senior Management, and other appropriate staff of MJHS and related corporations through written and oral opinions, committee activity, and educational presentations.

  • Provides legal support to the MJHS Compliance program. Works with MJHS Compliance Officer by serving on compliance committees and supporting compliance activities.

  • Serves as lead counsel or co-counsel as necessary, commences litigation, and conducts defenses; accordingly, advises management regarding litigation; makes recommendations to the General Counsel on settlement of claims on behalf of or against the Corporation, related corporations, or individuals whom the corporations are obligated to represent.

  • Supports the overall activities of the Office of General Counsel as directed by the Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

  • A degree from an accredited law school, strong academic credentials, and be licensed to practice law in New York State or eligible to seek admission to practice in New York.

  • 7 years of relevant experience practicing law in a hospital, healthcare system, health plan, or a law firm where the practice has been primarily focused on health law preferred
  • Knowledge of employment and/or litigation matters preferred.
