What You Will Do:

Path to Academics, Community and Employment (PACE) is a three-year, post-secondary certificate program designed to meet the transitional needs of young adults with multiple intellectual, learning, and developmental disabilities.

National Louis is seeking applicants interested in joining our team as PACE Resident Life Assistant. PACE Resident Life Assistants (RLA) utilize the dorm environment as a classroom for the life skills and social development of students. RLA's do this through modeling, assisting with Life Skills tasks, running a club, problem-solving with students, and attending weekend activities. RLA's work as a part of a residential team to partner with students to participate fully in the dorm, college, and community life.

This position is full-time and will begin in the fall 2024 ending in June 2025, and includes early morning, evening, and weekend hours depending on program needs.



Essential Responsibilities

    Actively participate in Student Life activities, including facilitating student clubs each quarter and attending a variety of student activities in the community, including special PACE programming outside of regularly scheduled hours.
  • Provide Life Skills instruction in the dorm.
  • Assist PACE staff in problem-solving dealing with residents who have violated procedures or are otherwise in need of problem-solving assistance.
  • Completes student records, logs, and reports as required, including mentoring and assisting students with Portfolio preparation.
  • Assists with organizing systems and procedures, including organizing and maintaining supplies, furnishings and equipment. Assists with student move ins and move outs.
  • Participate in training events, as required. Participate in weekly Student Life staff meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED Required.
  • Related experience in education, recreation, and social work.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Recreational programming.
  • Experience working with student disabilities.
  • Requires ability to travel in the community with students and within residence hall. RLAs are responsible for computer work, phone calls, walking and standing, some light lifting. High percentage of time working with students and staff in individual and group meeting format.
  • Teamwork: Is an effective team player who adds complementary skills and contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. Communicates in an open and candid manner and can be counted upon to fulfill any commitments made to others on the team.
  • Positive Outlook: Tends to stay positive, even when others sound negative or struggle to remain upbeat. Sees and provides others with concrete reasons to believe that things will work out well. Notices and acknowledges things that are going well, especially during stressful times.
  • Building Student Confidence & Engagement: Expresses genuine confidence that students can (and will) be successful as learners. Is fully engaged as a teacher, and demonstrates enthusiasm about the subject at hand. Encourages active participation, including questions from students, making it clear that everyone is in a safe place to give an incorrect answer, or to ask a question
