Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Student Service Advisor 3 will provide comprehensive student services for assigned programs within Nursing Science and Health Care Leadership graduate degree (NSHL) and certificate programs. Manage new student orientation, student record keeping, student registration/enrollment, student milestones, and student data. Advise students on School of Nursing and Graduate Studies policy, procedures, and deadlines. Assist with milestone events such as graduation, pinning, and white coat ceremonies. Through working with students and faculty, identify student resource needs and use communication skills to proactively refer students to campus resources. Collaborate with faculty to support and advise students facing complicated and personal challenges. Solve problems quickly and work with changing priorities and demanding workloads, utilizing good judgment as to when to inform and seek consultation from management; and must focus on attention to detail with complex logistics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge and experience to interpret and advise effectively on policies, procedures and requirements regarding UC Davis graduate education and the NSHL program, UC Davis Graduate Studies, Graduate Council, Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid Office and the University of California.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of student information and materials.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact tactfully and diplomatically with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff and students; respond to questions and concerns; and comprehend the specialized needs of students from diverse cultural and backgrounds.
  • Professional ability to reprioritize workload and perform as part of a team in a highly visible and high-stakes dynamic environment.
  • Independent decision-making skills to work with ambiguities where clear guidelines are not present.
  • Skills to identify issues, provide recommendations, referrals, and seek resources to develop solutions.
  • Ability to develop programmatic partnerships with a variety of academic and administrative departments.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work under frequent interruptions; to independently establish priorities, anticipate job requirements, organize workflow to work effectively to achieve timely progress on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical skills to interpret student data to support recommendations. Ability to obtain, correlate and develop statistical reports from various sources; skills to retrieve and assemble information for preparation.
  • Advanced computer skills to select and utilize various software programs such as word-processing, spreadsheets, web searches, web site maintenance, and database management programs.

  • Experience using UC Davis systems: Banner, Embark, GUARD, eValue, GradSphere, preferred.

Work Environment

Ability to work onsite and remotely as required. This position requires travel in the Davis and Sacramento areas and occasional travel to other community sites.
