The School of Science and Engineering recently added a new $40M ($23M building and $17M equipment), 58,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility to support multidisciplinary education, research, and economic development initiatives. The Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences is one of the four divisions in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) established through UMKC Forward, a university initiative to create multidisciplinary learning, academics, research, and outreach.

The Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences is instrumental to the University of Missouri System's NextGen Data Science and Analytics Innovation Center (dSAIC), which supports university research across the state and plays a critical role in the region's health, business, and workforce development. dSAIC is based at UMKC and operates in partnership with the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Job Description

The Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences in the School of Science and Engineering invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We encourage applications from individuals who use Microbiology and/or Biochemistry to address fundamental life science questions. Candidates with experience working on prokaryotic or eukaryotic single-celled organisms should describe that experience in their cover letter and curriculum vitae.

The primary attributes we seek in candidates are (1) demonstrated excellence in research, as the faculty member would be expected to initiate or continue an independent, extramurally funded research program, and (2) potential or demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring of students from a variety of life experiences and backgrounds.

The Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences in the School of Science and Engineering grants BS, BA, MA, MS, and PhD degrees.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Assistant Professor position must possess a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or D.V.M. At least two years of postdoctoral experience is essential. Applicants should have some experience with grant submission and manuscript submission.

Applicants for the Associate Professor position should have all qualifications of Assistant Professor, as well as successful grant applications, more than five peer reviewed publications at their previous position, mentorship of graduate students or postdoctoral fellow, and strong student evaluations from didactic teaching.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with rank, success in funded research and credentials.

This is a 9-month, ranked, tenure-track or tenure-eligible full-time faculty position, eligible for benefits. The position begins fall semester 2024. Our academic workloads and schedules promote a positive work/life balance.
