As a Pastry Cook, you are an integral part of the production kitchen team. In this position you will prepare a variety of baked goods for food service units and catering services. You will assist in developing new recipes. Your role involves ensuring high-quality standards in all baked products and contributing to the overall success of the unit. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Produces high quality, fresh products - baked goods, decorated cakes, and pastries. Decorates, designs, and finishes cakes and pastries for restaurants and catering.
- Preps and bakes dough and batter according to recipes. Helps to ensure orders are prepared accurately. Ensures recipes are accurate, recommends changes and corrections within established production time frames. Bakes, proofs, and stores baked items.
- Mixes items and scales product according to recipes. Bakes a variety of items such as pies, breads, muffins, and cakes. Sets up catering and restaurant orders. Coordinates bakery requirements with other departments.
- Follows opening procedure for bakery area. Turns on all equipment. Distributes job assignments and follows up to ensure quality and completion of assignments. Pulls Catered Event pre-costs and batches recipes.
- Follow proper food handling, sanitation and personal hygiene procedures. Weighs, labels and dates all food items, stores in designated areas. Cleans countertop, plexiglass windows, walls, shelves, drain screens and floor mats. Sends all utensils to be washed and when returned - checks to see that all utensils are properly stored.
- Provides suggestions and input to supervisor. Actively solves problems wherever possible. Works harmoniously with coworkers.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- General knowledge of weights and measures.
- Knowledge of methods and materials used in large scale food preparation.
- Knowledge of institutional food service operations.
- Skill in operation of institutional baking equipment such as ovens and mixers.
- Skill in adjusting recipes according to quantity desired.
- Ability to wash food service utensils and equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Ability to work early mornings and/or late evening hours including weekends.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently reaches, lifts, shakes, stirs, pours, carries, and pushes.
- Often withstand large workload under high heat.
- Ability to occasionally transport/move up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must be able to work early mornings and/or late evening hours including weekends.
