A Brief Overview

The position is visible to the hospital's clinical service lines, such as Nursing, Pharmacy, Perioperative Services and/or Laboratory, and serves as a liaison between IT and those groups. This position also interfaces with the business staff as it relates to the assigned clinical application(s). Duties include:

What You Will Do



  • Leads needs assessment, software design, implementation, support, and reporting.
  • Independently facilitates design of clinical workflow in conjunction with the clinicians and provides guidance to Clinical Analysts in designing improved efficiencies, solving complex workflow issues and incorporating quality initiatives.
  • Leads unit and integrated testing of the software to ensure that the design objectives are met, including the development and validation of testing scripts.
  • High degree of understanding of clinical departments' business processes.
  • Troubleshoots application issues, with/without vendor assistance, to resolution.
  • Troubleshoots system hardware, as needed.
  • Partners with end users to understand workflow and business processes.
  • Maintains system security for assigned applications.
  • Manages Disaster Recovery and Back Up requirements for assigned systems and provides guidance to Applications Analysts in activities.
  • Acts as the team project lead in partnership with the Project Management Office on all phases of a project; from scoping and design through implementation and transition to Operations.
  • Mentors System Analysts.
  • Knowledge and experience with industry standard report writers such as Crystal Reports; produces and maintains custom reports.
  • Provides input to components of development of end-user training materials and participates in training efforts.
  • Guides other team members in ensuring good documentation standards.
  • Leads escalation of issues with appropriate internal resources, to resolution.
  • Develops policies and procedures in collaboration with clinicians, other system analyst team members, and IT Clinical team manager.
  • Independently leads application upgrades and troubleshooting efforts and provides guidance to application analysts.
  • Supports and troubleshoots Hospital Information Systems interfaces for inbound/outbound and billing orders.
  • Creates reports and assigns work problem tickets to Application Analysts.
  • Evaluates and maintains appropriate system documentation.
  • Collaborates with other clinical and application analysts to insure system integrations.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
