Department: QSIB - Querrey Simpson Inst B
Salary/Grade: NEX/12

Job Summary:

Under general direction, provides supervisory skills required in the operation and lab management of the Querrey Simpson Institute for Bioelectronics (QSIB) Storeroom and is responsible for the Maintenance, repair and custody of laboratory equipment and facilities. This includes but is not limited to maintaining QSIB's internal stockroom and cleanroom, performing basic equipment maintenance, receiving package deliveries, managing inventory and chemicals, performing group inspections, coordinating with the facilities department, and managing recordkeeping systems.

This position supports research excellence of laboratories by overseeing laboratory spaces and equipment. Ensures high levels of cleanliness and organization are maintained in spaces. Proactively manages and keeps rigorous records of inventory, ordering, and receiving of consumables. Maintains appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices for the laboratory.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Directs, coordinates and expedites the repairs of laboratory equipment and facilities for laboratory and office.
  • May be in charge of the unit store or a stockroom, or one or more major functions of a large storeroom operation. Issues items based on proper documents received from requisitioning authorities.
  • Organize and plan the training of students, faculty and staff personnel for safety and fire prevention and protection.
  • May assist the faculty or staff in setting up, and in operating, items of equipment for lectures, regular laboratory work, or special demonstrations.
  • Checks stock against shipping authorizations for agreement as to quantities, descriptions, sizes, conditions, and conformance to purchase orders. Applies special handling or precautionary measures for the moving and storage of fragile, delicate, bulky or perishable items.
  • Answers questions on procedures, purchasing, the return of goods, shipping, crating, and wrapping, ordering, and pricing. Contacts vendors regarding non-shipments, back orders, errors, returned goods, damaged material and storage of fragile, delicate, bulky or perishable items.
  • Conducts physical inventories and compares results obtained with totals on control records, and solves discrepancy problems. Prepares reports and keeps records related to the stores function.
  • Responsible for the storage, inventory and transfer of department equipment such as desks, files, bookcases and laboratory apparatus.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School or equivalent necessary.
  • Some experience with storekeeper/stockroom organization.
  • Supervisory experience useful.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 2 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience; OR
  • Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Minimum of 1 year lab/bench experience.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $24.00 to $28.50 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
