The Department of Psychology at Rutgers University-Newark anticipates hiring a social psychologist at the assistant professor (tenure track) level to start September 2025. All research areas of social psychology are welcomed, including research that interacts with other core areas in psychology such as social development, social cognition, or social neuroscience. This position requires a Ph.D. in psychology or a closely related discipline. Highest priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate promise of becoming an outstanding scholar with research programs that can be supported by external funding, excellence in teaching through advancing and supporting initiatives that deepen pedagogical knowledge and sustain motivated learning in all students, and the ability to provide research mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.
The Department of Psychology strongly emphasizes research, operating research-focused PhD and MA graduate programs. The core research and doctoral training areas include Cognitive, Developmental, Neuroscience, and Social Psychology. The department offers excellent facilities, including individual lab space, in-house tech support, ample and well-organized subject pool and the Rutgers University Brain Imaging Center (

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
