Job Summary

The Assistant I - Payroll provides administrative support in the payroll department.

Salary Range: $39,776 - $55,111

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent WITH post-high school training, preferably in Accounting, Payroll, or Human Resources is required.
  • Two years of previous experience working in a high-volume, customer-focused area is required.
  • PeopleSoft experience is desired.
  • Equivalent combinations of job-related coursework and experience may also be considered.
Responsibilities

  • Gather and examine timesheets to ensure validity.
  • Complete data entry of payroll related items such as entering/correcting/updating direct deposits, making changes to tax forms, researching timesheet discrepancies, etc. to ensure employees are paid accurately.
  • Process adjustments, to include, missed time as well as runing/reviewing reports& auditing data for accuracy.
  • Answer and research payroll inquires via phone, email and at the window.
  • Completes employee verifications for mortgages and other financial transactions.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
