Gundersen Health System is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse for our Admission/Referral Coordination Center (ARCC). This is your opportunity to work among a team of highly experienced RNs while doing the work you love in the beautiful coulee region of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

What you will do:

  • Fulfill 60 hours per two weeks; 0.75 FTE
  • This 12-hour position is mostly day shift (6:30 am - 6:30 pm) with approximately 1-2 night (6:30 pm - 6:30 am) shifts per six week schedule. Two weekends per six-week schedule; two holidays per year.Opportunity to pick up extra shifts, if desired.
  • Work from the GHS Regional Operations and Communication Center (235 Causeway Boulevard, La Crosse, WI), where parking is conveniently located right outside of the office for staff
  • This is a "behind-the-scenes" office-based position and there is no direct patient contact in this role. ARCC RNs facilitate communication between clinicians, RNs, Hospital Operations Managers, dispatch, and external agencies, among others regarding admissions, referrals, and transfers while working to ensure appropriate patient placement

What you need:

  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing
  • RN licensure to practice in the state of Wisconsin upon hire
  • At least 5-7 years of nursing experience is required for this role
  • Exceptional global listening skills, multi-tasking abilities, typing proficiency, strong computer skills, and ability to utilize multiple screens and software concurrently
  • The ideal candidate will be a current or previous Gundersen employee, as having knowledge of Gundersen Health System hospital units and admission process is very beneficial to ensure appropriate patient placement

Job Description:

The RN, Admission/Referral Coordinator functions as a clinical expert to standardize and facilitate the process of admission/transfer for Gundersen Health System patients. The Coordinator triages and acts as a liaison between all referral sources, both internal and external, and the admitting provider relative to potential or actual patient placement. Uses knowledge of Gundersen Health System infrastructure and clinical background in determining the best personnel to assist with consultation and referral. Collaborates with the multi- disciplinary care team to ensure that patient needs are met through clinical triage, determination of level of care, and placement/resource allocation to the appropriate nursing unit. Oversees and directs the patient flow throughout the hospital.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Acts as liaison and clinical triage expert between referring providers and accepting physicians. When coordinating referrals, uses sound clinical and technical judgment in crisis and emergent situations. Solicit key pieces of clinical/demographic information and documents accordingly in the patient record.

2. Demonstrates a commitment to superb customer service by providing prompt, calm, courteous, and professional assistance to our internal and external customers, at all times through verbal and electronic communication.

3. Assigns appropriate unit and bed to patient for admission and/or transfer based on patient needs, acuity, level of care factors and staffing resources based on established organizational policies and procedures.

4. Facilitates physician admission orders, verifies level of care, and notifies receiving unit of admission.

5. Manages the electronic "bed board" and other mechanisms related to patient census, staffing and capacity indicators. Notifies the Hospital Operations Manager of admissions and confers with them regarding bed placement.

6. Collaborates with multi-disciplinary care team, internally and externally, as needed to coordinate seamless flow of admission and facilitate an inter-disciplinary approach to patient placement and quality care.

7. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.

8. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Associate degree in Nursing.

DESIRED

Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

5-7 years clinical nursing experience.

DESIRED

6 months Experience with hospital and/or Critical Care nursing; leadership skills; at least 2 years clinical nursing at Gundersen Lutheran.

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

Registered Nurse (RN) licensed minimally in the state of practice, some positions may require additional state RN licenses.
