Job Summary

Under the direction of plant management / superintendent, the Maintenance A Mechanic installs, maintains, and repairs plant operations equipment. Cemex supervision reserves the right to disqualify any Maintenance II Mechanics who does not improve their skill level or has documented instances of poor work performance or receive repeat disciplinary actions. This is safety-sensitive positions and cannot work under the influence of drugs or alcohol which would pose an imminent safety or health threat with irremediable consequences.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform General Maintenance I "B" Duties.
  • Works from blueprints, specifications, sketches, and information received from supervisor to build, repair, or modify plant mechanical equipment and buildings.
  • Typical assignments include but are not limited to: Replacing work bearings, alignment of bearings and shafts; assembling spare drive pinion shafts and bearings; fabricating, installing and repairing belt conveyors; and similar major repair, overhaul and replacement tasks.
  • Disassembles equipment as required; removes worn parts; prepares and fabricates replacement parts; reassembles equipment and tests for proper operation on gyratory, cone, and jaw crushers, all aspects of high frequency screen, screen media changes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibrations of belt scales.
  • Understand process-flow of aggregate and mining operations, quality control of materials, and
  • stockpile management.
  • Troubleshoots operating equipment; diagnoses cause for failure to operate acceptability; makes corrections and adjustments needed; and checks out equipment for function and safety operation.
  • Lays out materials and sets up equipment to perform gas or electric welding.
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Make routine inspections and written reports of any equipment he/she may be operating.
  • Inspect, fuel, and lubricate, make minor adjustments, and assist in minor repairs to equipment.
  • Recognize and report any unsafe conditions in work area.
  • Perform such clean-up work as is necessary to keep department clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Adhere to all Cemex, MSHA, and OSHA rules and regulations always and wear proper safety equipment on plant grounds.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Must be able to direct and instruct work crews and instruct contractors as needed. Act as a duly constituted authority.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or a journeyman maintenanceman with four to six years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and be able to direct, instruct, and assign work crews.
  • Able to understand, interpret, and execute with exactness, instructions given in both verbal and written form.
  • Must be physically able to perform the required duties properly and efficiently.
  • Commensurate with education.
  • Commensurate with education, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, area, and volume as well as the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to accurately read and use a ruler / tape measure.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Able to recognize potentially hazardous situations, understand instructions given by supervisor, possess common sense.
  • Must be able to safely use the tools required for this position

Working Conditions

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, which necessitates the wearing of a respirator, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Required to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as needed, which could include 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift. May be required to be designated as night / weekend call out contact for the Maintenance Department.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Heavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls

The expected base compensation for this position ranges from $36.18 to $36.18 per hour, depending on, but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skill sets, experience, and education
