Job Summary
The primary goal of this position is to maintain and improve the efficiency of Ready Mix Plant Operation systems, by testing, optimizing and calibrating a variety of industry specific software and hardware systems.Initiate performance trials, coordinated with local Operations personnel and outside vendors, in order to verify system improvements and when appropriate make mechanical changes to Plant equipment and/or operating techniques that will optimize the manufacturing process. When necessary the Specialist will also conduct computer hardware repairs and/or replacements, software modifications and settings adjustments used in the manufacturing process.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct process studies and develop recommendations for future capital equipment, or its operation, in order to improve efficiencies and/or increase production while maintaining product quality and reducing costs
- Monitor tolerance and efficiency reports to ensure plant and system issues are addressed in a timely manner
- Document results of process studies to provide a history from which trends and databases can be developed
- Conduct industry analysis and studies to affect specific modifications to equipment or its operation to improve RM operations/processes
- Present findings and recommendations to Management
- Assist in analysis of future capital improvement projects that relate to Plant Systems improvement. In addition, prepare budgeting, planning and execution of those projects
- Assume a support role in capital project management for those projects that affect Plant Systems
- As well as providing technical support for operations employees and/or outside contractors who may be working on capex projects
- Through remote or on site analysis, manage, support, configure, and maintain concrete computerized plant batching systems and applications for multiple concrete production plants, located across a wide geographic area, modifying as needed for specific machine control configurations
- Directly responsible for improving deficiencies with the batching systems
- Fine tune, analyze, and test all improvements made to our concrete plant computer systems and/or batching operations by internal personnel or outside vendors
- Coordinate with fellow Operations Management, Technical Services Managers and IT to ensure implementation of new programs, system enhancements, software upgrades, system configuration, and proper functionality of the overall computerized system
- Provide support and direct others to support system users as required, including help in regards to issues escalated from the CEMEX Shared Services help desk
- Coordinate systems maintenance and repairs with outside service vendors as necessary
- Develop training materials and provide instruction for operations employees on process principles, system constraints, and updates on future plant operating system improvements
- Train operators in the techniques required to implement software upgrades, as well as actual system operations
- Continually seek knowledge on all technical and team leading skills to better serve the operations and its employees
- Actively lead in Company safety programs related to Plant Systems operations, and provide training materials for the safe operations of our Plants
- Adhere to all CEMEX and O.S.H.A. rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
- Meet or exceed company safety standards
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least three years of experience in Ready-Mix plant operations or plant maintenance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledgeable of Ready-Mix plant components and how they interface to the computer systems including electrical control circuits, networks and communication systems
- Complete understanding and knowledge of electrical wiring and ability to read schematics
- Advanced level knowledge of computerized systems software packages including Spectrum, Scorpion, Eagle and Command batch systems and computers
- Advanced computer knowledge of Windows OS, application software and printers
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Willing to travel
- Mechanically inclined
- Highly motivated and self-directed
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and to work in a team environment
Working Conditions
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors
- Must wear protective equipment while at the location
Physical Requirements
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
- Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
