General Summary:

The Director Quality Improvement is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of the Lean operating system and continuous improvement project focuses for Consumers Energy (CE). They work closely with the CEO and other members of the executive team to develop and implement the company's lean & continuous improvement strategy. The Director Quality Improvement will oversee a team of Lean professionals and partner with business leaders across the enterprise to accomplish the company's lean strategy and be responsible for the development and implementation of Lean processes and best practices for CE. The Director Quality Improvement will also be responsible for the budgeting and forecasting of Lean costs for their area and will liaise with other departments to ensure the smooth running of operations.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 10-12 years of experience with project management in a regulatory environment
  • [OR] Associate degree in Engineering with 12 years of experience with project management in a regulatory environment
  • [OR] High School Diploma with 14 years of experience with project management in a regulatory environment
  • Lean and or Six sigma certification - Preferred



In this role, you will:




  • Responsible for Senior Officer support, strategic execution and integration of Operations, Engineering and Regulatory and Financial strategic Planning and continuous improvement topics. Aligns the strategies to enable the achievement and sustainment of breakthrough performance and exceptional business results, as required by the Company strategy. Leads and directs efforts to successfully complete special projects that emerge through Senior Officers.
  • Review project proposals and plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project. Oversee all continuous Improvement projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Direct a team that develops enhanced Lean (CE Way) capabilities as outlined in the CEWay strategic road map throughout the organization, increasing proficiency through practice and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide daily leadership and work collaboratively with leadership and stakeholders to develop, align and implement a Lean operating system utilizing standard and consistent lean methodologies.
  • Establish and monitor systems and procedures for measuring progress and for problem-solving with Lean project managers, engineers, and business partners.
  • Educate and coach leaders in adoption and practice of lean transformation standard.
  • Develop budgets, schedules, and performance standards for lean programs.
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary

  • Strong understanding of quality assurance processes and Lean best practices
  • Working knowledge of agile development methodology and Lean or Six Sigma methodology
  • Ability to develop and important relationships with key stakeholders and collaborate with all levels within the organizations.
  • Ability to champion the strategic priorities of senior leadership
