PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Project Engineer specializes in the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems in buildings and other construction projects. This role will partner and collaborate across all the Granville S&T site facilities and will collaborate with architects, construction teams, and other professionals to integrate critical systems seamlessly into the building's design. This role will also consider energy efficiency and sustainability, aiming to minimize energy consumption and environmental impact. The position will lead mechanical design and implementation and serve as the primary communication link to business partners on progress of work.

Reports to: Site Operations Leader

Span of Control: Individual contributor in the Facilities Team located at the Granville Science & Technology Center. Work of this role impacts key operational results for all of Granville facilities.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Living Safely



  • Actively participates in monthly safety meetings
  • Ensures rigorous compliance to safety procedures and OC corporate policies
  • Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self, team, and coworkers


Provides design leadership and management of design resources on facilities improvements to improve energy efficiency, building performance, and maintain proper facilities throughout Granville Site. (50%)



  • Adhere to safety requirements when implementing new processes.
  • Adhere to site and equipment-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design aspects of multiple projects simultaneously by networking with internal and external engineering firms. Activity to include directing scope definition and cost estimates, defining control strategies, directing programming resources, and coordinating mechanical resources for commissioning and startup.
  • Monitor projects for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices.
  • Utilize effective project management techniques, such as the SAP project module, to lead projects.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered consistent with scope and expectations around operability and cost.


Provides project management to capital projects to ensure on-time and on-budget completion. (30%)



  • Oversee contract requirements and ensure contractor work is being performed in proper manner.
  • Achieve zero injuries in capital projects by ensuring safety through design and in construction and start-up.
  • Apply sound engineering practices towards the completion of improvement projects.
  • Manage capital projects from start to finish--write capital approval requests, ensure the requested funding is consistent with all project requirements, execute for on-time, on-budget completion.
  • Ensure timing from inception through start-up and commissioning is met in all cases.
  • Ensure compliance with Early Management business processes in completion of project deliverables.


Provides consultation services as the site's subject matter expert on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. (10%)



  • Assists plant personnel in troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in-person and/or remotely.
  • Serves as the expert in the site facilities needs related to MEP
  • Provide technical and process support to the site's customers as required.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to business for high level project scope validation.


Coaches, trains, mentors, and provides leadership to maintenance technicians and supervisors for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems design and operation. (10%)


JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field.
  • 3 years of experience in engineering design, project management, managing projects small to large ($1MM+).

    • Capable of building a coherent business case, including;

      • Project justification(s)
      • SOW development
      • Budgeting/Cost control
      • Scheduling/Execution plan


    • Understanding and ability to run a project in a gated process
    • Has the financial acumen to create forecasted spend on projects to match actual spend (within +/- 10%)


  • Ability to travel up to 5%.
  • Knowledgeable of common work safety practices and the confidence to hold contractors accountable for maintaining an accident free work environment.
  • Proficient MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)



PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:



  • Background in continuous manufacturing preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in engineering design, project management, managing projects small to large ($1MM+).
  • Experience in AutoCAD and engineering software.
  • Background in modular equipment design.
  • Leadership experience in a matrix environment.
  • PMP certification
  • Facility Maintenance experience
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, and Lean manufacturing.
  • Implementing strategic plans.
  • Exposure to TPM methodologies.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge and experience in project management including writing scope and cost estimates, contractor bid packages, evaluating vendor proposals, and preparing Capital Appropriation Requests for approval.
  • Strong project leadership skills and able to manage projects through to completion.
  • Ability to lead change through influence and without having direct line leadership of the team.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate strategy to all levels of the organization effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills to quickly assess situations, develop appropriate solutions, and manage execution.
  • Able to utilize data and data collection systems for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs.
  • General knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis or equivalent process.
  • Strong planning, resourcing, and delegation skills.
  • Approaching projects with an open-mind, where benchmarking and team engagement/collaboration contribute to a cost-effective solution.
