Job Description

The Opportunity

The Department of Humanities & Communication seeks a tenure-track assistant professor with a Ph.D. in Humanities, Ethics, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or related fields. Applicants who are ABD and scheduled to graduate before August 2025 will also be considered. The successful candidate must have a record of scholarly productivity that demonstrates potential to sustain high-quality research examining the ethics of science, technology, business, or social life. We particularly seek candidates whose research offers collaborative opportunities with other units on campus.

Teaching duties, to begin August 2025, include general education courses such as speech and/or writing courses. The candidate will have the opportunity to teach existing courses in values and ethics, world philosophy, comparative religion, and/or Western civilization and to develop new courses in their area of specialization. Candidates must have a record of teaching excellence. Service responsibilities could include departmental, college, and university committees and other activities to support the department's mission. The first-year course load will be 3/3 with the expectation of active research.

About the College/Department

In addition to offering general education courses in writing, humanities, and communication at a STEM-focused university, the department delivers academic programs in Communication and Interdisciplinary Studies, with minors in Humanities, Communication, Latin American Studies, Arabic Studies, Russian Studies, and Chinese Studies. The department has 38 full-time faculty members.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Ph.D. in Humanities, Ethics, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or related fields. Applicants who are ABD and scheduled to graduate before August 2025 will also be considered.

Application Process

Applicants must submit a letter of application, CV, graduate transcripts, and a list of three references. In their application letter, applicants should note their teaching experience, previous scholarly productivity, and plans for further development of their scholarship. Additional materials, such as a teaching portfolio and/or research statement, may be requested from qualified applicants as the search progresses.

For priority consideration, applications should be submitted by 11/1. Reviews will continue until the position is filled.
