Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Post Doc Associate for NJMS- Pharmacology. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will conduct research to investigate the neuroprotective and regenerative properties of the cytokine Leukemia Inhibitory factor by evaluating the efficacy of intranasally administered LIF on the regeneration of myelinating oligodendrocytes subsequent to developmental brain injuries. The project will involve studies of growth factor and cytokine signaling in both mouse and rat models of perinatal hypoxia.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Participates in experimental design and carries out experiments including animal handling and surgeries.


  • Assists with the maintenance of the laboratory facilities, equipment and instruments.
  • Records and analyzes data from experiments.
  • Maintains a proper data notebook pursuant to the standards of the department and the PI
  • Contributes to the intellectual development of the project

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a closely related scientific discipline required. Individuals with MDs may apply but only if they have significant basic science research training and relevant publications.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • The position requires a detailed knowledge of the technical methods and procedures employed for translational biomedical research on the developing nervous system.
  • Must be organized and capable of multi-tasking.
  • Applicants should have experience in primary brain cell culture, analyses of intracellular signaling pathways, lipid biochemistry, mitochondria functional assays, flow cytometry, histology and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language and also must have strong writing skills.
  • The PI is looking to hire a highly motivated individual who can work independently and who is capable of supervising PhD and Masters candidates.
