Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
Mary Livermore Library supports learning and teaching, research, creation of knowledge, intellectual growth, and enrichment of the academic experience. The university works to "change lives through education," while the library "enhances education through research."
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the position is to provide Patron Services Desk coverage (circulation) and rotating Saturday hours.
Job Description
Primary purpose of this position it to assist with the operations of Mary Livermore Library by operating the Patron Services desk. This includes:
* Providing patron assistance at the Patron Services Desk, checking materials out and in, collecting fines, and answering directional and brief informational questions via the telephone, email, and in person. Customer service skills are an integral part of this task, as is the necessity for confidentiality regarding patron information. Patron Services Desk functions are performed using the library's integrated library system, Ex Libris ALMA.
* Opening and closing the library according to Library policy and procedures. Handling internal and external book returns. Opening the Patron Services Desk, balancing the Patron Services monetary account and other duties as deemed necessary to ensure proper opening and closing procedures.
* Providing Collection Maintenance assistance as needed with shelving, shifting and shelf reading, as well as assistance as needed with inventory of library materials, including electronic scanning using ALMA. Reconciling inventory error reports. Updating item status as needed in the library's ALMA
* Assisting with the processing of circulation statistics.
* Assisting with the creation of digital guides, marketing materials, social media accounts, outreach events, and displays.
* Assisting with the coverage of the Research Services Desk as needed in helping patrons with access to library materials and electronic databases
* Assisting with special projects delegated by supervisor & other duties as assigned

Mandatory Personnel: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.
Management Preference
Library experience preferred but not required.
