2025 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration. Duquesne Light's internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.



  • Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
  • Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH's Hybrid Work Model (described below).
  • Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricularactivities.
  • Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.



Overall Purpose:

The Engineering group plans, designs, and orders materials for our distribution and transmission facilities (lines and substations) in a cost-effective manner to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of power to our customers. Groups include: Distribution Engineering, Third Party Attachments, Substation Design Engineering, Substation Control Engineering, and the Civil & Transmission Line Engineering.

Electrical Engineering interns are sought for full-time (40 hours/week) positionsfor the Summer 2025 Internshipprogram. We are filling multiple positions, and the successful candidates willbe considered for several areas of Engineering to include:




  • System Planning and Protection
  • Asset Management
  • Substations Engineering



Education/Experience:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in anABET-Accredited BS or MS program inElectrical Engineering.Candidates must have completed their sophomore year of studies.

Skills/Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements:

Work will be conducted in a hybrid environment with a minimum of two days in-office per week, and occassional field visits. Candidates must be within close proximity to Pittsburgh.

Other:

Applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and social media screen.

Hybrid Work:

All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
