Here's what you'd do:

  • As a Tool Machinist, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing tooling solutions for our manufacturing processes.
  • This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our company's success and significantly impact industrial tooling.
  • Specifying the appropriate tooling package and processes.
  • Developing program code using conversational or CAM programming.
  • Coordinating with production machine shop supervision to advise and mentor machinists to improve quality and production efficiency.
  • The position will design and optimize tooling and fixtures for product assembly operations and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Evaluate design concepts and develop prototype components that meet design specifications;
  • Provide estimated cycle times; request procurement or build special tooling when needed; and design tooling, jigs, and fixtures for component manufacturing and as necessary.
  • Ensures the timely, accurate, and successful translation of tooling design requirements into manufacturable tooling.
  • Provide a technical interface between departments to develop a clear understanding of tooling and product requirements.
  • Release and manage prototype and production tooling prints resulting from tooling development activities.
  • The position manages all tool and fixture designs, prints, bills of materials, verifications, and validation activities.
  • The position is responsible for maintaining program revisions and supporting documentation for specified changes to correct defects or quality problems noted by internal clients' comments or feedback from returns analysis.
  • They actively support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • They participate in process improvement and cost reduction activities by developing tooling packages to minimize costs and maximize productivity; work with quality control using root cause analysis to troubleshoot and recommend process improvements; and provide technical support for Engineering projects such as new product launches and equipment purchases.

Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or Science.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience working with total product launches.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience with code writing and programming.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience using conversational or CAM software.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in SolidWorks, Mazatrol, Gibbs Cam, Auto CAD, or similar Engineering software.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in programming and setup.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Axis machining experience.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tooling engineering in automotive parts manufacturing.
  • A certification in CNC programming, advanced blueprint reading, and machine mathematics.
  • Ability to write programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of the use and design of tooling and inserts, such as boring bars, turning holders, and insert identification for use in machining operations.
  • Proven ability to design and optimize tooling and fixtures for product assembly operations in a light manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of metrology, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other direct and transfer measurement methods, is necessary.
  • Knowledge of methods of pressure and force measurement.
