Job Summary

This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications which may be required of the employee assigned to the position.

The employee in this role must be knowledgeable of professional standards, practices and guidelines of the Perioperative area. Additional responsibilities of this position include providing assistance and support services in the clinical and non-clinical areas of the operating room. The incumbent also works alongside other support staff and participates as an ORA team member with responsibilities for maintaining the O.R. environment. The employee in this role participates in activities that clean, organize and prepare all areas of the Main Operating Room. In addition, but not limited to, this position facilitates transport of supply items, instruments, and equipment. The employee in this role will transport patients, transport specimens, transport deceased patients, and under direct supervision of a registered nurse, may assist with other patient care activities. This position is also responsible for maintaining and organizing supply items, instruments, and equipment, properly handle clean and infectious waste, distribute sterile supplies, instruments and equipment, clean and test autoclaves for proficiency, document properly in various logs, and provide other general duties pertinent to the department's needs.

The Main Operating Room delivers patient care through provision and management of capital supplies, instrumentation and technological support as well human resources in collaboration with medical and paramedical staff to effectively manage patients undergoing elective, urgent, and emergent surgical intervention
