Position Overview
Essential Job Duties |
The Peng Lab uses data-driven strategies to study the immune system and infection. The Lab is housed in the College of Veterinary Medicine and is part of NC State Bioinformatics Research Center.
The postdoctoral research fellow will lead the analysis of genetic and epigenetic regulation of human immune responses, using both high-throughput approaches and molecular techniques.
This research fellow will interact regularly with scientists from various research backgrounds including computational biologists, molecular geneticists, and immunologists. The successful candidate will be initiative-taking and enjoy working in a collaborative research environment.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The research fellow will attend scientific meetings to present research progresses and author primary research articles. |
Other Work/Responsibilities |
The research fellow will assist with the generation of research hypotheses and will contribute preliminary data to research proposals and serve as a co-investigator and/or key personnel. The candidate will also work with and train other professionals, graduate students, and undergrads in the lab and through collaborations. |
Requirements and Preferences
Work Schedule |
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm; some weekends |
Department Required Skills |
- Experienced in virological and immunological techniques including but not limited to ELISAs, time course infections, viral titration assays, viral propagation, and western blotting.
- Experienced in molecular techniques in mammalian cells such as cell culture, qPCR, , cloning, use of various CRISPR based approaches, and transfection.
- Critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Willingness to learn basic bioinformatics

Ph.D. in Virology, Immunology, or related areas; experiences with
CRISPR based techniques in mammalian cells such as
CRISPR/Cas9 editing and CRISPRi/CRISPRa; first-author publication record preferred |
