The Coordinator for Academic Enrichment Programs (
AEP) supports key initiatives and services in the Office of Scholars Programs, particularly those aimed at transition support and success, academic advising, creating pathways to academic equity, and term-to-term persistence for historically underrepresented, first-generation, and/or students of color at Loyola University Chicago. These efforts contribute to Loyola's commitment to elevating the success of diverse student populations. Reporting to the Associate Director for Academic Enrichment Programs, the Coordinator will:
Academic Advising
- Serve as the primary academic advisor for a caseload of 100+ first- and second-year students, inclusive of Cristo Rey, Senn, and Greer Scholars programs, and assist students in developing a meaningful academic and co-curricular plan within the Jesuit educational tradition.
- Directly advise students through one-on-one appointments, in-person and virtually, as well as interacting via email and text messaging.
- Teach multiple sections of
UNIV 101 First-Year Seminar for cohorts in Academic Enrichment Programs.
- Provide additional support to students in academic distress/on probation in accordance with academic policies; refer students needing additional support to appropriate campus offices and resources.
- Work on a team to present academic workshops on various topics, such as registration, campus resources, software usage, degree requirements, and learning strategies.
- Maintain accurate student records using various software.
- Develop advising resources promoting student success and retention in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate degree requirements, academic policies to students, parents, and faculty, in compliance with
FERPA.
- Assists incoming first-year students through orientation programming.
- Prepare student files for seamless transition to College and School academic advisors at the conclusion of students' sophomore year; maintain connections with juniors and seniors as a supplemental advisor.
Programming and Outreach
- Collaborate with colleagues to create and execute initiatives aimed specifically toward increased academic success/performance and sense of belonging (term-to-term retention and persistence, satisfactory academic progress, maintenance of scholarships, etc.) of underrepresented students and students in selected scholars programs.
- Provide academic advising and success coaching for incoming and continuing students across Academic Enrichment Programs.
- Serve as a point-of-contact for incoming students during their orientation and first-year experience; conduct routine and targeted outreach and identify opportunities that ensure a smooth transition experience.
- Use term-to-term academic performance data to identify students in need of academic and socio-emotional support; create and implement programs and outreach for continuing undergraduates, focusing on academic support, student development, and career exploration.
- Assist in the creation, maintenance, execution, and evaluation of curricula, schedules, structures, and policies for outreach activities and programs.
- Liaise with faculty, academic advisors, and college/school administrators to identify students in need of academic intervention. Draw upon research-based best practices to recommend a measured and student-centered response that encourages self-advocacy and persistence.
- Assist with the activities of student leadership positions such as Scholars Ambassadors, Success Coaches, Peer Tutors, and Peer Mentors.
- Develop resources and presentations/workshops promoting student success, enrichment, and retention in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain effective collaboration with campus partners and internal constituencies to ensure smooth operations of all programs, including but not limited to: First and Second Year Advising, academic departments/schools, New Student Programs, Campus Ministry, Athletics, Undergraduate Admission Office, Financial Aid Office, Student Accessibility Center, Tutoring Center, Office of the Bursar, Registration & Records, and Center for Diversity and Inclusion.
- Represent Student Academic Services and/or Student Success on University-wide committees and events as needed.
- Participate in Student Academic Services signature programs, events, and activities, including but not limited to: Orientation, New Student Convocation, finals week proctoring, open houses, and student celebrations.
