Program Summary

The Family Practice & Counseling Network (FPCN) provides comprehensive primary care, dental and behavioral health services. We stand behind the belief that all people are entitled to accessible, comprehensive, quality, and affordable health care, and that care must be delivered in a culturally competent, trauma-informed and compassionate manner by caring for the whole person - mind, body & spirit. The network's mission is to provide person-centered, integrated and comprehensive health services to individuals and families across their lifespan. The network promotes resiliency and well-being among patients, staff and surrounding communities.

We are a network of 3 comprehensive health centers, one convenient care center and six school-based health centers in Philadelphia.

Today, FPCN serves more than 15,000 patients annually and is a NCQA certified Patient-Centered Medical Home and recognized by HRSA as a National Quality Leader for Behavioral Health.

FPCN is opening Philadelphia's First Birth Center; its collaborating hospital is the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. This brand new 30,000 sq ft space will feature exam rooms, birthing suites, community meeting rooms and a gorgeous community garden park. The Family Health and Birthing Center will provide full prenatal, birth, and postpartum care in Southwest Philadelphia. Services include education on nutrition, exercise, childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, infant, and self-care; and mental health and substance abuse therapy for those who need it. These services will be provided by interdisciplinary teams of professionals led by nurse midwives and doulas, including behavioral health specialists, addiction counselors, social workers, and registered nurses. Additional services will include transportation assistance; lactation counseling; prenatal and parenting education; legal services; and complementary mind/body services, such as yoga, massage, and meditation. All staff will have training in anti-racism, justice, diversity, and inclusion (A-JEDI), trauma-informed care, and sanctuary model practices.

Position Summary

Upholds the health center mission by assuring the delivery of high quality support services that result in strong consumer satisfaction; and that help maintain the fiscal and operational capacity of the Dental department.

Team members are expected uphold the health center mission by assuring that patients receive health care that is competent, caring, and meets with a high degree of satisfaction. In addition, staff must support FPCN's commitment to the creation of a trauma-informed system of care that continually recognizes and responds to the impact of traumatic stress on all those who have contact with the organization, including children, adults, families, caregivers, and staff.

Essential Duties and Functions

  1. Open office each morning and start up computers
  2. Chair side dental assisting when needed.
  3. Be fully trained to assist the doctor on all dental procedures
  4. Turn all equipment on at beginning of each day, log on to Dentrix and bring up patient record. Turn off all equipment when day is done-including log off on all computers
  5. Seat patients in the chair as soon as possible after patients are checked in perform medical history update, blood pressure reading and xrays as determined by the doctor
  6. Maintain all certifications and licenses in order to perform xrays in Pennsylvania
  7. Be fully trained and competent in digital x-ray (Denoptix) and electronic patient record (Dentrix).
  8. Educate patients of all procedures to be done.
  9. Stock operatories and help other assistants keep theirs stocked.
  10. Chart thoroughly in Dentrix all treatment plans and procedures done.
  11. Complete lab work on time (Models, trays, occlusal rims, etc.).
  12. Coordinate outgoing and incoming lab cases, assuring that lab slips and return dates are correct and calling labs for pickups.
  13. Keep work areas neat and organized.
  14. Flush water lines daily and perform DUWL disinfection procedures weekly.
  15. Prepare route slips and schedules for the next day.
  16. Greet and register new and existing patients and update all information in existing patient records.
  17. Verify treatment plans, insurance coverage and eligibility, and financial information to patient upon arrival.
  18. Submit process and notify patient regarding insurance pre-determinations approvals and denials. Investigate and fix denied claims.
  19. Take and post patient payments.
  20. Scan all paper forms into Dentrix.
  21. Notify clinical staff of patient arrivals and schedule changes.
  22. Verifies and confirm all appointments for the next day.
  23. Call no show patients and reschedule appointments.
  24. Retrieve phone messages, answer phones and schedule appointments.
  25. Checks out patients as they leave practice (collects monies due, verify that postings are correct, schedules for any treatment to be done, checks recall and treatment plans) and schedule next visit.
  26. Answer insurance and account questions on balances/transactions.

Rotation on following Duties:

  1. Autoclave maintenance
  2. Statim sterilizer maintenance
  3. Distilled Water maintenance

Lab upkeep

Main Trap in Compressor Room-monthly

Replace plaster Trap -when full

Perform and document spore test for autoclaves Perform and document spore test for autoclaves

Check Oxygen and Nitrogen tanks weekly

Qualifications

  • Three years as a dental assistant, One year working the front desk at a dental office.
  • Certified Dental Assistant preferred with X-ray certification
  • At least three years of experience as a Dental Assistant
  • Knowledge of Dentrix.
  • Must have current CPR certification and Hep B Vaccination
  • Be fully trained and competent in digital x-ray (Dentrix) and electronic patient record (Dentrix)
  • Must comply with all OSHA and CDC requirements.
  • A team player with excellent attitude and extremely patient friendly.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations.
