CAD Technician

STV currently has an opening in our Virginia Beach, VA office for a CAD Technician in our Transportation division. As a CAD Technician you will have the opportunity to assist in the design of roadways and highways for the communities we serve. We work with numerous public agencies, including the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority.

You will be responsible for:

• Assisting with roadway design using OpenRoads Designer and being familiar with local, state and national roadway design standards.
• Developing design plans including geometry, alignments, and details.
• Coordinating with design team and other disciplines on design and deliverables.
• Interacting and partnering with client management teams and multidisciplinary engineers.

Technical Support:

• Serve as the technical expert for CAD software and tools,
  • Roadway/highway design
  • Vertical and horizontal alignments
  • Typical and cross sections
  • Earthwork
  • Signage and pavement markings
  • Quantities (e.g., measurements of areas using CAD) and cost estimates
  • Design reports (e.g., graphics and figures)

Qualifications:

• Technical School Training required, Associates degree (in CAD) is strongly preferred
• 8+ years relevant experience
• Experience in roadway design using Bentley MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer is preferred
• AutoCAD training/experience is acceptable as we have found that most CAD Technicians are able to rapidly adapt to MicroStation
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing project deadlines.
