Description

Leidos has an opportunity for a Digital Engineering Lead working remotely or from our global headquarters in Reston, VA. This is a dynamic role where you will lead and mentor cross-functional and agile teams responsible for designing, building, and scaling high-quality digital products and platforms, and in relation to multiple cutting-edge research topics. This role requires strategic vision, technical expertise, and hands-on leadership. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to align digital initiatives with corporate objectives and R&D initiatives and ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of solutions that meet internal and external client needs. You will collaborate with other Digital Engineering professionals across the company, including the Leidos Innovation Center and various Sectors aligned around customers and business areas. We're seeking a candidate with exceptional communication and collaboration skills, particularly in working with technical teams, including those who may have unconventional communication styles. The ideal candidate will be adept at building strong relationships with engineers and other technical professionals, facilitating clear and effective communication, and fostering a positive, inclusive work environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Curate disruptive DE capabilities and approaches and provide thought leadership and hand-on expertise in both R&D and applied environments.
  • Lead and execute our DE technology strategy, including build/buy/partner approach
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, UX/UI, and business stakeholders, to align project goals, requirements, and deliverables with business objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams, architects, and developers, fostering innovation and best practices in agile development, DevOps, research and development, digital engineering.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Maintain a forward-looking approach by evaluating and integrating emerging technologies into digital solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals and a strategic technical vision.
  • Promote and enforce architecture standards, principles, and policies across projects to ensure consistency, security, and architectural integrity.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to provide technical insights, address complex challenges, and drive consensus on architectural decisions.
  • Provide mentorship and career development support to technical teams and architects, fostering skill development and innovation across the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience with a bachelor's in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or related field; or 10+ years with a master's; or PhD with 6+ years.
  • 3+ years defining a digital engineering ecosystem (infrastructure, tool selection, processes).
  • 3+ years leading high-tech research and development projects.
  • 3+ years integrating analytical and engineering tools via a digital thread.
  • Knowledge of the full systems development lifecycle (modeling, testing, deployment, support).
  • Proven communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisitions, digital transformation, and MOSA design principles.
  • Experience in software and systems modeling, model-based engineering, and R&D digital engineering.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree.
  • In-depth knowledge of digital engineering concepts (lifecycle data, digital threads, twins).
  • Experience in systems engineering lifecycle management and architecting solutions.
  • Demonstrated acumen in R&D environments, specifically in identifying new research threads and developing unique solutions solving Leidos' unique customer challenges
  • Strong team collaboration across multidisciplinary environments and government clients.
  • Experience breaking down military missions into system models for product development.
