Assistant Professor of Aviation

Central Washington University is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Aviation to join our Aviation team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

Central Washington University (CWU), located in Ellensburg, WA, seeks a nine-month, full time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor to teach in the Professional Pilot program. CWU offers a Professional Pilot Bachelor's degree. The goal of the program is to prepare students for careers as professional pilots in private industry and governmental agencies.

The Department of Aviation faculty teach courses related to their area of expertise using a variety of modalities. In addition, faculty members are expected to create a campus environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and increasingly diverse; advise students; contribute to the advancement of the department/program; engage in scholarship appropriate to their field/expertise; and provide service to the University, the community and their profession.

• Earned Masters degree, preferably in Aviation, Business, Education, Management, or Safety (with advanced flight ratings and five years aviation industry experience)
• Logged flight hours equivalent to an FAA Part 141 Assistant Chief Instructor
• Demonstrated success in teaching at the college or university level
• Willingness to teach a wide range of courses at all levels and through various modalities (e.g. in-person, online, or hybrid)
• Research, teaching, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students.
• Experience working effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the university philosophy

• Experience in flight program curriculum development and improvement

• Earned Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) preferably in Aviation, Business, Education, Management, or Safety

• Experience or interest in developing and teaching online courses
• Experience in curriculum development and improvement
• Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion.
• A record of promoting inclusivity in classrooms and academic work environments.
• Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds.
• Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into curriculum and classroom conversations.
• Research program that reflects the needs of minority or underserved populations.
• Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through teaching and/or mentoring activities.
• Demonstrated training in and/or experience in implementing anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion-related materials or pedagogical practices in credit-bearing courses, certificate programs, or professional development type trainings, workshops, or seminars

Annual Salary: $75,000 - $85,000, based on a full-time nine-month appointment
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Additional Summer teaching may be available. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June
