TITLE

Technical Director -SOA Dance

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for directing all technical activities for dance productions. Duties include the procurement of materials, maintenance of equipment, supervision of all technical rehearsals and production work sessions, enforcement of safety procedures, and attendance at performances. Work is performed under minimal supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Chair, SOA Dance

Supervises: Supervises student assistants, graduate assistants and temporary employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:



  • Directs all technical activities for dance concerts.
  • Supervises all dance technical rehearsals.
  • Performs maintenance on Dance Studio Theatre equipment.
  • Consults with faculty and designs lighting, scenery and digital media for dance concerts.
  • Supervises digital media documentation of dance concerts.
  • Coordinates technical needs of faculty and dance students.
  • Implements and maintains an active training program for stage equipment for students.
  • Schedules and supervises technical rehearsals including crew assignments.
  • Schedules and supervises box office and front of house operations.
  • Designs and supervises distribution of publicity materials for dance concerts.
  • Develops and implements policies for use of Dance Studio Theatre.
  • Consults with faculty and coordinates concert production schedule.
  • Consults with Margo Jones Performance Hall Facilities Manager and coordinates technical activities for Margo Jones Performance Hall dance concerts.
  • Supervises students performing concert production work.
  • Provides on-site supervision of the use of the Dance Studio Theatre and digital media equipment.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES



  • Performs other duties as requested.


EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Two years' experience in related field required, three years' experience in related field preferred.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:



  • Knowledge of technical theatre lighting equipment and ability to design and execute lighting designs for dance concerts.
  • Knowledge of digital media applications to dance including camera work, editing, and projectors.
  • Knowledge of computer graphics and design software (MAC and PC) and website maintenance software.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate a complex dance productions operations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to apply budgetary and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively -orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment including university software and email.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
