The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking (1) an experienced Research Technician II in the Department of Biology. This position will be responsible for setting up and maintaining the lab and supporting all phases of research.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking to hire an experienced Research Technician II. The Research Technician II will help set up the lab and establish protocols and workflows for future trainees and staff members. The research technician will also manage the lab and perform experiments.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Research Technician II are the following:



  • The research technician will perform research tasks including culturing bacteria, propagating stocks of bacteriophages, various infection assays, designing and cloning of plasmids, genetic manipulation of bacteriophages and bacteria (complementation, gene deletion, etc.), DNA sequencing, data analysis. They will also be responsible for manuscript preparation as needed.
  • The research technician will perform lab management duties including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, making agar plates and commonly used solutions/buffers, maintaining logs of bacterial strains and bacteriophages. They will also be responsible for equipment maintenance and facilitating lab compliance with lab member training, biosafety standards, etc.
  • The research technician will perform supervising duties including instructing new undergraduate and Master's students in lab protocols and techniques.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field and two years of expreince.
  • Experience in microbiology and molecular biology techniques, such as bacterial culture, PCR, and plasmid design/cloning, is preferred. Experience in lab management skills, such as supply ordering and inventory management, is also preferred.
