College of Arts and Sciences is seeking (1) experienced Laboratory Technician II who will directly manage the laser scanning confocal microscopes

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The full-time staff position (12 months) is within the Neuroscience Institute and directly reports to the Director of the Imaging Core Facility. The Laboratory Technician II will manage the laser scanning confocal microscopes (Zeiss LSM700, LSM780, and LSM980 with Airyscan 2) in the facility and work with users, including students, staff, and faculty, to ensure the instrumentation remains in optimal working condition and that customer support services meet the needs of the user community.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician II are as follows:



  • Operation and training of users on laser scanning confocal microscopes.
  • Managing user reservations of the instrument, requesting and granting room access, providing technical support to users as needed.
  • Maintenance (routine checkups and arrange service calls with vendors, etc.) and upkeep of the laser scanning confocal microscopes.
  • Ensure the facility policies and guidelines for the safe operation of the core instrument are followed and ensure the safety of the users.
  • Assist the core director with daily operation and billing of the confocal systems.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:



  • Master's degree in biology, Chemistry, or Neuroscience and 3 years of work experience. A combination of work experience, including training and education, may be substituted for degree.


Preferred Requirements:



  • Master's degree in a STEM related field (e.g. Biology; Chemistry; Neuroscience; or other related field) and three years of fluorescence microscopy imaging-related work experience.
  • A combination of work experience, including training, education, laboratory management, and related experiences may be substituted for a degree.
  • Expertise in the operation and maintenance of confocal microscope systems or advanced light microscopes
  • Experience in immunofluorescence (IF) staining of tissue sections or cells such as immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunocytochemistry (ICC) and/or live cell imaging techniques.
  • Prior experience in experimental design considerations for confocal microscopy-related imaging projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in addition to technical and analytical expertise in supporting customer service for the user base.
