POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Human Resources Manager is a key leadership position responsible for translating the firm's HR strategy into actionable initiatives for the assigned east regional offices of New York, Washington DC, and Charlotte. This role collaborates closely with the Regional Director(s) of Administration and HR Director to implement these initiatives effectively. Additionally, this role provides strategic guidance and support to business units, fosters a positive and engaged work environment, and ensures compliance with all regional labor and employment laws
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Collaborate with Human Resources Director to design and implement firmwide and regional HR initiatives aligned with the firm's overall strategy.
  • Analyze regional workforce data and trends to identify areas for improvement and develop targeted HR programs.
  • Collaborate with business unit leaders to understand their talent needs and develop solutions to address any skills gaps.
  • Champion innovative HR practices that enhance the employee experience and contribute to the achievement of business goals.
  • Leverage business acumen and HR expertise to guide assigned business unit leadership in making strategic human capital decisions, resulting in (e.g., increased employee retention, enhanced work performance, and increased efficiency by leveraging employee strengths).

Develop HR Strategies

  • Stay at the forefront of HR trends and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve the effectiveness of HR processes.
  • Recommend data-driven policy and procedure updates for compliance and optimal efficiency.

Regional HR Team Leadership

  • Manage HR team, partnering with key stakeholders to execute the Firm's HR strategy across the region.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop HR team, fostering career growth and cross-functional expertise.
  • Partner with regional administration teams in the absence of local HR to navigate personnel issues.

Cultivate a Learning Culture

  • Equip managers with HR expertise through targeted training programs.
  • Collaborate with managers on career development pathways for their teams.
  • Foster a culture of learning by curating development programs for regional office professional staff.
  • Lead firm-wide initiatives focused on staff training, development, recognition, engagement, performance management, and employee relations.

Employee Engagement and HR Management

  • Lead regional employee engagement initiatives, leveraging data insights to cultivate a positive and committed workplace.
  • Proactively analyze regional trends and develop plans to enhance employee engagement and retention.
  • Interpret and recommend updates to HR policies, working with HR leadership to develop new policies as needed.
  • Manage onboarding from hire through orientation to ensure a seamless, informative, and welcoming employee experience.
  • Oversee and approve special payment authorizations as assigned.
  • Conduct exit interviews to gather valuable employee insights for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Benefits team on regional FMLA, leaves of absence, and worker's compensation situations, and provide guidance to supervisors throughout the process.
  • Collaborate with Benefits and Facilities teams for ergonomic workstation setup and recommend equipment accommodations to support employee health and well-being.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on employee relations (ER) matters, providing expert guidance to attorneys and professional staff.
  • Oversee the performance management and disciplinary process, including reviewing manager documentation, preparing written summaries of counseling sessions, and conducting terminations when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with HR leadership on all aspects of employee relations.
  • Proactively manage legal risk by staying up to date on employment laws and working with legal counsel.
  • Conduct investigations with professionalism and integrity and provide informed and thorough recommendations to leadership to resolve complex employee relations matters in order mitigate risk to the Firm.
  • Track and analyze ER cases, generating insightful reports on key metrics.

Optimize HR Operations:

  • Monitor and analyze HR metrics (e.g., turnover rates, ER, exit interviews, etc.) to identify trends and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure team is consistently following prescribed workflows and advising on best practice for unique or nuanced circumstances.

Performance Management

  • Partner with Talent Management to oversee performance evaluations for assigned regional business units.
  • Guide managers on employee development and oversee performance management and disciplinary processes.
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and consistency of performance evaluations throughout the year (annual reviews, 90-day reviews) and manage HR's role in the 90-day review meetings.
  • Remain current on legal landscapes and collaborate with labor counsel to mitigate risk.
  • Coach evaluators on documenting, monitoring, and resolving identified performance concerns.
  • Evaluate position descriptions for assigned business units and collaborate with Talent Management to determine FLSA exempt status.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS (must be listed on resume to be considered)
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 7 plus years of Human Resources Management experience in a professional services environment (law firm experience a plus) required.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to the local office required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exhibits exceptional judgment in HR matters.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws in a multi-state organization.
  • Understanding of a broad range of Human Resources issues, best practices, and processes.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to lead a team of HR professionals, navigate sensitive personnel matters, and perform workplace investigations with integrity.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to make decisions timely within authority of role.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to navigate ambiguity and independently drive projects forward.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification a plus.

  • Well versed in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams). Experience with UltiPro a plus

SALARY

Washington, DC based applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $133,000-$155,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement plan contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.

New York City based applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $140,000-$164,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement plan contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
