JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park, Pennsylvania, USA) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, to start in Fall 2025.We will consider theorists in all subfields with a preference for research portfolios that overlap with the area of quantum science.

Competitive applicants will have a Ph.D., a record of creative research accomplishments, a compelling and original future research plan, an ability to achieve teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in the practice and teaching of science.

Candidates for Associate Professor must have demonstrated excellence as a scholar and researcher in a field relevant to the Department of Physics and have an established reputation for scholarly or professional achievement. Duties will involve teaching, research, and service.

Candidates for Professor must have demonstrated excellence as a scholar and researcher in a field relevant to the Department of Physics and have evidence of a substantial record of advanced research as well as leadership in their field of specialization. Duties will involve teaching, research, and service.

- A cover letter (maximum of 2 pages) that includes:

  • An overview of the goals/vision of your research, teaching, and diversity program in the context of our department and institution

  • your most significant accomplishments

  • a summary of experiences and qualifications that position you to achieve your goals

- Curriculum vitae

- Detailed statement of research accomplishments and plans (maximum of 4 pages)

- Statement of teaching philosophy and interests (1 page)

- Diversity statement (1 page) that describes your past, present and future planned contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion that will advance our institutional diversity, equity and inclusion goals (http://equity.psu.edu/diversity-statement)

- A list of six references. Candidates are encouraged, but not required, to arrange for reference letters to be submitted to the application site.
