Special Education Assistant Professor Position in Inclusive
Instructional Strategies/Literacy

The University of New Mexico, College of Education and Human
Sciences, Department of Special Education, invites applications for an
Assistant Professor Faculty position
in Special Education, with experience and expertise in inclusive instructional strategies/literacy.
The successful candidate will be
expected to (a) teach courses specific to preparation of educators to provide literacy instruction to multilingual/multicultural
students with intellectual disability and severe disabilities in inclusive
settings and (b) conduct scholarly
work related to the literacy education of multilingual/multicultural students
with intellectual disability and severe disabilities
and/or the preparation of educators to serve these students. The assistant professor will collaborate with colleagues
and be a part of the cutting-edge Special Education Department. In addition, the successful candidate will advise
graduate students, serve on MA comprehensive exam and dissertation committees,
and maintain an active research agenda. The University is especially interested in
candidates who can contribute to diversity through
their teaching, research, and service. Successful candidates must be committed
to working with broadly diverse student and community populations.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Special Education or closely related field by August 15, 2025
  • Minimum of three years' experience providing literacy instruction to students with intellectual disability and severe disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Robust and current academic preparation in providing literacy instruction to multilingual/multicultural students with intellectual disability and severe disabilities in inclusive settings.
  • Thorough formal preparation and current involvement in research activities, such that the successful candidate will be able to establish an agenda of active research in the area of inclusive instructional strategies and literacy.
  • Clinical/professional experience with multilingual/multicultural students with intellectual disability and severe disabilities in inclusive settings.
  • Potential for teaching graduate education preparation/methods courses in the Special Education Department to provide literacy instruction to multilingual/multicultural students with intellectual disability and severe disabilities in inclusive settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated and clearly articulated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
