Financial Analyst II*

Position Description

  • Work with and support other analysts and supervision in the development of electric and water system financial analyses, preparation of long- and short-range financial forecasts, annual load forecasts, and other business scenarios. Ideas are supported by gathering information, analyzing options, and proposing well thought out plans. Must possess a broader view of the company, its processes, and customers, and be able to solve a range of problems. Must be able to explain complex information to others in a professional manner. Assignments are usually performed with a moderate level of guidance. Generally, the work performed by this position can only be accomplished in an efficient and timely manner through the effective use of information systems.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Supports the timely development and analysis of a minimum of 3 longer-term financial forecasts per year containing projections produced with information received from stakeholders throughout the company.
  • Works with other analysts in ensuring that all calculations use the most appropriate treatment of both current and projected business events, that the information aligns with the overall forecast assumptions, and that the information received is used in our model as intended by its provider.
  • Works with other analysts to make necessary changes to the financial forecast computer models by researching and documenting information, validating changes, and reviewing impacts.
  • Supports the interpretation and administration of the contractual aspects of the Authority's customers to ensure these contracts are appropriately reflected in the Financial Forecast and to provide resulting cost projections to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Obtains and maintains a high-level understanding of the content of the Authority's most current financial statements, operating statement, and annual report including the principles of demand, energy, customer load factor, plant capacity factor, and transformation gains/losses.
  • Supports efforts to ensure that all information received from stakeholders is validated, compared to prior information received, and appropriately documented.
  • Works within a team to ensure that all documentation for all work generated by the group is appropriately filed and readily accessible in accordance with time period stated in the corporate retention schedule.
  • Supports with the preparation of the Authority's Generation Resource Plan and the analysis of the risk associated with each of the Resource Plan's potential solutions.
  • Works closely with treasury to develop a plan to support debt issuances, appropriate amounts, and amortization schedules.
  • Provides supported and validated projections of their impact on the system for internal and external stakeholders, and ensures impacts on customers are considered.
  • Works with a team of analysts to develop rolling (blended actual and projected) forecasts for the current year.
  • Analyzes historical actuals data for completeness and to understand how this data varies from projections.
  • Updates projections with known changes and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Simplifies and explains results to other departments as needed.
  • Works closely with consultants, external stakeholders, and other analysts to develop annual capacity and energy load forecast projections and scenarios.
  • Develops an understanding of economic drivers of the forecast and suggests potential updates or considerations to be made.
  • Validates projections are in-line with historical results.
  • Performs special tasks and assignments as requested.

    Financial Analyst I
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.
  • Ability to apply moderate to advanced financial, economic, accounting, mathematical and statistical principles and thorough knowledge of personal computers and/or programming preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
    $52,340 - $65,420 (min. - mid.)

    Financial Analyst II
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field + 2 years experience.
  • Must have ability to apply moderate to advanced financial, economic, accounting, mathematical and statistical principles and thorough knowledge of personal computers and/or programming.


  • Compensation Information:
    $65,080 - $81,350 (min. - mid.)
