Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Aviation and Emergency Management is the academic unit within the School of Science, Aviation, Health and Technology at Elizabeth City State University that educates, trains students and offer degrees in three of the most dynamic programs: Aviation Science, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Emergency Management. Aviation and Emergency Management students have a range of program options from which to choose. An experienced and dedicated faculty helps each student on an individual basis to choose the aviation program that best meets his/her career interests. The Aviation Science (Flight Education and Aviation Management tracks) are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International ( AABI).
Description of Work
The Department of Aviation and Emergency Management at Elizabeth City State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty member (Assistant or Associate) in Aviation Science. The successful candidate will develop and deliver courses for traditional and virtual classrooms for undergraduate students in the Department.
The primary purpose of this position is to teach undergraduate level courses in the AABI accredited Aviation Science program; engage in service to the department and university, assist in advancing the Aviation program as a global leader in the field; advise and mentor a diverse student population; develop and strengthen programmatic areas of the program; and undertake collaborative and interdisciplinary research within the department and the university.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
Ability to work with a diverse group of students;
Experience teaching at college level.
Minimum Training and Experience
Master's degree with 1-3 years of teaching experience required. Doctorate preferred in Aviation Science or a related area with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework in the specified discipline. Preferred experience in the aviation or aerospace industries. Desirable candidate will have experience in teaching Commercial Aviation, Meteorology, Regulatory Aspects and UAS courses. Doctorate is required for tenure-track appointment.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
QM teaching certification required within 1 year of hiring
