Career Management Center:

The SC Johnson College of Business Career Management Center prepares undergraduate and graduate students across our three schools for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.

The Career Management Center at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business plays a pivotal role in helping students and alumni achieve their career goals by providing comprehensive resources, personalized support, and invaluable networking opportunities. This role supports the students at the Dyson School of Applied Economics, which is currently ranked number 3 in the Bloomberg BusinessWeek rankings. It also supports the students of the Nolan School of Hotel Administration, a premier hospitality business school acknowledged by CEO World Magazine as the "best hospitality and hotel management school in the world". Together, both schools have over 1,500 undergraduates who excel in industries such as real estate, finance, consulting, hospitality, food and beverage, technology and data-driven roles.

This Position:

The Assistant Director of the SC Johnson College of Business undergraduate career center will deliver a comprehensive career management model for undergraduate students. In addition to the comprehensive career management model, the Assistant Director will assist in the development of an industry-specific career development model for careers.

Using this model will require collaboration with administration, faculty and students across several programs, undergraduate and graduate, to ensure the program goals are met. In addition to programming initiatives, the Assistant Director will provide one-one career advisement to undergraduate students within the SC Johnson College of Business community. Along with other advisors, the Assistant Director will guide the professional development of all Nolan School of Hotel Administration and the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics undergraduate students.

The Assistant Director will independently work with student organizations to build synergies that deliver nationally recognized 'best in class' professional development programming.

Using standards developed by the National Undergraduate Business Symposium - a peer group of top undergraduate business programs across the US and the MBACSEA, the Assistant Director will track and record employment outcomes for the SCJCB community and will work personally and collaboratively to ensure post-graduation outcomes are successfully achieved.

The Assistant Director will work independently to build and maintain relationships with faculty, recruiters, and alumni to support the career aspirations of undergraduate SC Johnson College of Business students.

In collaboration with the Senior, Associate Director & Managing Director, the Assistant Director will monitor program success through the use of survey data and make improvements that support key performance indicators.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Bachelor's degree with 2-4 to years relevant experience.
  • Experience in working directly with college level students, and an ability to interface with alumnus and corporate recruiters from across the globe.
  • Exceptional candidates with relevant industry experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with business school education, and industries/functions including real estate, consulting, and finance.
  • Ability to work well with others while creating a high-quality and respectful work environment is required. Demonstrated ability to monitor and deliver results and measure opportunities for program improvement.
  • Experience that demonstrates sound judgment, creativity, management, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work well within a team of professionals.
  • Must be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team.
  • Must be able to navigate and effectively use software systems, such as Handshake, Canvas, Qualtrics, VMock, OfferView and GradLeaders.
  • Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends to support program goals. Must be willing to travel at least five times on an annual basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in career counseling, student affairs, higher ed administration, business administration, real estate or related degrees.
  • An advanced understanding of career choices for business majors, prior experience working with graduate and professional students and a proven track record of supporting student post-graduation outcomes.

This position is a full-time position based in Ithaca, New York. The position may allow for the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week. The hybrid schedule will be determined at the time of hire. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
