Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
As the University's Chief Academic Officer, the Provost has broad responsibilities for advancing the education and research missions of the University. The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost ( OEVCP) provides the leadership for UNC-CH's strategic planning for academic programs. The Provost's organization ensures the development and enhancement of high quality baccalaureate, masters and doctoral-level programs through ongoing program review and assessment, the raising of academic standards, and the expansion of research and other scholarship/creative activity.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with Systems Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Provost Finance Director serves as the senior financial director, liaison and analyst for all Provost units including the Provost Operating Office, Global, Executive Director of the Arts, Digital and Lifelong Learning, Academic and Community Engagement, and Enrollment Management. This position will support all aspects of finance including setting and reviewing budgets, conducting and presenting analyses to unit and provost leadership, managing financial projects and programs, monitoring unit financial health and fund usage, and being a key resource for developing financial strategies. This position requires an expert-level subject knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices. They will be assigned projects that span across provost and academic units. Their work will support leadership decision-making and provide guidance on best practices for analysis and planning. The director additionally must take on leadership in finance, related data report development, and maintenance for internal and external constituents. This involves regularly updating financial records, ensuring data integrity, monitoring and refining reporting processes, and maintaining any tools or databases used for analysis and planning. The focus would be on sustaining the quality and reliability of the information and resources used by internal (provost and academic units) and external (stakeholders, auditors, etc.) constituents.The position reports to Associate Provost for Finance but also will have direct relationships with the Provost Shared services Finance and HR teams and financial staff in each Provost unit. Moreover, they will work with senior financial staff in the Schools and Colleges to cultivate best practices, share information, and improve consistency in records and reporting. The Director must have a collaborative and team-oriented approach to ensure consistency and to develop strong relationships
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-Ability to read and analyze financial data, as well as operate a computer and other office equipment. -Business process improvement experience.-Strong planning, analysis, and management skills.-Strong leadership skills, experience leading knowledgeable subject matter experts, and developing staff.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Advanced Excel and ERP systems knowledge. UNC systems experience especially. - Minimum of five years of progressive budget and/or accounting experience in a university setting. - Financial and reporting experience in a higher education environment. Especially experience using and developing Tableau reports.- Master's degree in a relevant field.- Knowledge of UNC financial systems and policies.
