The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), Office of Research, Division of Neurotoxicology has a postdoctoral fellowship opportunity available. The candidate will receive training on developmental neurotoxicity through participation in multi-disciplinary research efforts in several nationally recognized research programs in support of FDA's mission. The training objectives are as follows:




  1. To assess and interpret the effect(s) of FDA-regulated products on the developing central nervous system To conduct histological, molecular, and/or biological experiments using in vitro and in vivo models To gain proficiency in using fluorescent and light microscopes and flow cytometers



NCTR, located approximately 30 miles southeast of Little Rock, conducts FDA mission-related research of critical importance to the Agency to develop a scientifically sound basis for regulatory decisions. Over 110 Ph.D. scientists and 400 support scientists, onsite contractors, and administrative staff make up a dynamic group of professionals in the NCTR organization. Undergraduate/graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scientists also pursue education and research opportunities in a multi-disciplinary team atmosphere.

The applicant must have received, within the last five years, a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in the fields of neuroscience, pharmacology/toxicology, or biomedical sciences. Prior experience in cell culture studies-especially in primary cells and induced pluripotent stem cells-as well as in developing and performing assays to evaluate the neurotoxicity of agents is desired.
