The Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences ( DMCS) within the School of Environmental & Biological Sciences ( SEBS) at Rutgers New Brunswick which runs through the Office of Summer & Winter Sessions session seeks a part time Instructor to teach the fully online undergraduate course, titled, "Introduction to Oceanography". This course will be held during the 2025 winter session, which runs from 12/23/24-1/17/2025.

Course Description / Objectives:


The goal of this course is to introduce the essential aspects of oceanography, with emphasis on "big picture" processes and the interdisciplinary nature of oceanography. This course will examine the geological, physical, chemical and biological disciplines (at a basic level) as they apply to ocean-related processes.

The course will do this via the online learning units, text & literature readings, as well as through videos, and projects/exercises. By the end of the course, students will comprehend a variety of oceanographic terms and concepts, and be able to apply them to: how ocean systems work, how they are studied, how the ocean influences Earth's biosphere and atmosphere, how the oceans support living ecosystems, and which issues concern humans and the fate of oceans.

This course is offered in fully-online sessions (winter/summer) where knowledge of oceanographic lessons/techniques are employed in the field for one class per week.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Qualifications include: graduate work and experience teaching the relevant topics required.
Research experience is a plus.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidate must have a PhD. Experience in oceanographic field techniques/lessons; experience in remote teaching, multimedia classroom techniques, and online learning management systems (canvas) is required.
