We are currently seeking an Engineer-In-Training - Water/Wastewater for our Phoenix Water/Wastewater Design and Construction Services Department. Entry level knowledge in either water and/or wastewater design/construction is required. This position provides design and construction observation/inspection assistance for civil infrastructure improvements including water/wastewater collection/distribution facilities, roadways, drainage facilities, and underground utilities. Must be team-oriented, hardworking, and enjoy doing great work.

What You Will Be Doing:



    • Performs on site-daily observation of the contractor's construction work and compares the work product to the project's approved plans and specifications.
    • Prepares reports documenting progress of the contractor's work.
    • Reviews the quality of the contractor's work.
    • Maintains daily logs of inspections and reports. Review any discrepancies with engineer.
    • Communicates all issues with the proper project team members expeditiously.
    • Assists with engineering tasks such as collection and analysis of data.
    • Prepares calculations and designs of piping, and pumping facilities.
    • Checks design computations and quantity estimates.
    • Assists with development of reports, specifications and plans for water supply, treatment, storage and distribution, wastewater conveyance, and pumping and treatment.
    • Assists in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
    • In the course of business, the member will be required to operate a company vehicle. A mandatory prerequisite to operating a company vehicle is maintaining an acceptable driving record.


    Required Qualifications:



    • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management or Civil Engineering with an emphasis in either water/wastewater engineering or construction management
    • Requires 0 -4 years of relevant work experience
    • Entry level knowledge in either water and/or wastewater design/construction is required
    • Must possess a State Engineer Intern (EI) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
    • Strong verbal, computer, and organizational skills
    • Strong technical writing skills
    • Excellent communication and documentation skills (Word, Excel or equal, Internet)
    • Ability to focus on details
    • Capable of performing with minimal supervision


    Work hours of this position may vary and will require work at any time the general contractor is on-site performing work activities.

    While some members choose to work out of their local office on a full-time basis, we offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions consisting of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and Friday being a flexible day that can be worked either in the office or at home. Eligible roles can also offer a compressed workweek schedule. Members who participate will be assigned a 9/80 work schedule, meaning every other Friday off!
