Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The primary goal of the Office of Admission at Fayetteville State University is to attract and enroll a diverse student body that represents a wide range of geographic, religious, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. To do so, the Office of Admission will work closely with alumni and other constituencies to support recruitment efforts while promoting excellent customer service & transparency about the admission process.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Admissions Counselor serves as a key representative of Fayetteville State University, responsible for promoting the institution to prospective students, families, and educators. This role involves conducting recruitment activities (on/off campus and virtual), providing detailed information about university programs, tools, and resources for student success, and guiding applicants through the admissions process. The Admissions Counselor makes admissions decisions, manages communications, and plays a critical role in achieving enrollment goals by encouraging accepted students to enroll.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education, marketing, business, or communications and
  • One year of experience in admissions, recruitment, or student services in a higher education environment.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Oral and written communication skills to present programs to large and small public audiences and interact individually with different populations.
Must be attentive to detail, have organizational skills, and have the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge of the enrollment process and associated cycles of tasks/responsibilities
Knowledge of college academic offerings and support systems
Must be detailed, multi-tasked, and goal-oriented.
Must be extremely flexible and have the ability to adapt to change.
Knowledge of financial options available to new students.
Must have strong interpersonal and customer skills.
Ability to process student information in the designated student info system.
Ability to work collaboratively as a team member
Must commit to exemplary customer service.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and
  • Two years of experience in student admissions, enrollment, or recruitment.
