Job Summary

Join our Phoenix, AZ team as a Systems Engineering Intern! Our internships are hands on, highly technical, and designed to let you see what it's like to work at Astronautics. This is a paid undergraduate intern opportunity. As an engineering intern, you will work closely with our engineering staff on actual customer projects. Our summer intern program consists of at least 10 weeks of real world experience in an engineering development environment.

In addition to systems engineering, we have open opportunities in software engineering this summer in our Phoenix office. Mentors are assigned to assist interns in achieving engineering related career development that is of mutual benefit to you and Astronautics.

As a Systems Engineering Intern, you will support engineers in the development, verification, and maintenance of system definition in Primary Flight displays, Secure Network Servers, Data Concentration Units, or Flight Controls. You will work under the supervision of engineering managers and other experienced engineers to engage in all phases of development including the following activities:

  • Participate in systems development activities including requirement specification and design definition.
  • Perform system verification activities including test definition, test execution, and review of lifecycle artifacts.
  • Integrate and debug executable code on avionics hardware platforms.
  • Support the generation of lifecycle documentation for avionic systems in the pursuit of formal certification with the FAA and foreign certification authorities.

Through the above design and assurance activities, you will obtain a working knowledge of the product development lifecycle in a regulatory, controlled market.

  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Capability of working independently with limited oversight from senior engineers

Education and Experience:

Required

  • Current accredited college or university enrollment with junior or senior standing; making progress towards an undergraduate degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Biomedical, Computer, Mechanical, Software, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
  • Working knowledge of engineering concepts, practices & procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Able to work full-time onsite during the summer of 2025
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship

Desired

  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above
  • Experience in software debugging and troubleshooting
  • Programming experience with Python, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript
  • Ability to work part-time during the school year
