40 Gundersen Health System is seeking a RN to work in Nursing Informatics. This salaried position is your opportunity to help us optimize how nursing staff interact with technology to enrich every life- patients, families, and staff. What you will do:
  • 1.0 Salaried FTE
  • Lead and/or actively participate in the design, implementation, and adoption of informatics solutions
  • Bridge nursing practice with information technology partners to develop efficient and effective technology systems, aligning with system initiatives and priorities
  • Be a leader in facilitation and collaboration with cross-departmental stakeholders, ensuring the voices of patient-facing nursing staff are elevated throughout system life-cycles.
  • Hybrid eligible after successful orientation (approximately 20 hours/week working from home and 20 hours/week working on site). Must reside in WI, IA, or MN.
What you need:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college of Nursing or Master's degree in non-nursing focus with Informatics Nursing Certification through ANCC. Those without a Master's degree will be required to obtain a Master's in Nursing or Non-nursing focus with certification within 5 years of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant RN experience-experience in inpatient/acute care departments preferred
  • Current BLS/CPR
  • RN licensure to practice in the state of Wisconsin

Job Description:

The Informatics Nurse promotes the strategic and innovative use of information systems and data to support and enhance nursing practice. The Informatics Nurse translates clinical practice and processes into technology solutions to advance nursing and inter-professional practice and communication. They ensure technology solutions improve patient and community outcomes and enhance the ability of the inter-professional team to provide evidence-based patient/family centered care. The Informatics Nurse collaborates with partners across the organization to deliver a digital environment that seamlessly promotes evidence-based nursing care, improved workflows, enhanced patient safety, and exceptional usability.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Assessment, identification, and analysis of nursing informatics needs:

Identifies technology needs through assessment, identification and analysis of the organization's information systems that impact nursing. Collaborates with the inter-professional team when indicated to identify needs. Rounds and collaborates with nurses to identify current state technology workflows, barriers and improvements to nursing practice.

2. Technology System Development:

Facilitates the design, deployment, adoption, optimization and evaluation of information systems and services related to nursing in partnership with the Information Systems team. Anticipates future informatics needs by partnering with vendors and scanning industry trends to ensure a strategic nursing informatics pathway. Provides end user perspective of usability throughout all stages of technology system development. Utilizes nursing expertise to lead group decision-making related to technology within projects and committees.

3. Professional Development:

Participates in knowledge and skill acquisition to support continuous professional development as well as development of the nursing informatics specialty. Engages in organizational, industry-led, and vendor-supported discussions, webinars, and conferences to increase knowledge of the informatics specialty.

4. Evidence-based practice, research, and resource utilization:

Integrates evidence-based nursing knowledge and research along with institutional data to identify best practices for patient outcomes utilizing informatic solutions. Proactively reviews and investigates opportunities for informatics solutions from literature, professional organizations, and outside vendors.

5. Quality Improvement

Acts as a change agent within all settings. Collects and analyzes data to formulate recommendations for enhancing the quality of nursing practice using informatics principles. Partners with quality improvement to review data and understand the technology factors that promote desired outcomes. Continues to evaluate informatics solutions after implementation, developing strong maintenance and reassessment plans. Works with others to identify problems and solutions, develops goals for change processes and applies improvement processes to effect practice change. Monitors effectiveness and progress throughout practice change while assisting to sustain change.

6. Communication:

Develops effective methods for communicating with end users and key stakeholders throughout the information system life cycle and change processes. Engages in effective written communication through methods such as electronic and corporate communications, ensuring end users and key stakeholders are made aware of how the technology is integrated in nursing practice. Facilitates group discussion and shared decision-making in settings such as committee meetings, project meetings, and problem-solving discussions.

7. Collaboration:

Partners with others to impact change and produce positive outcomes through sharing of data, information, and knowledge of technologies. Works with operational partners and department leaders to ensure clear understanding of the impacted departments' microsystems and how changes to information technology will impact the end user. Collaborates with Information Systems, and Advanced Training Consultants to ensure Electronic Health Record design and training materials are developed with consideration for nursing workflow. Maintains relationships with outside vendors to influence product design. Builds relationships with frontline nursing staff to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction is achieved through informatics solutions.

8. Professional Practice Evaluation:

Promotes and integrates the science of informatics to continuously improve practice, maintain competency and contribute to the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. Seeks opportunities to expand understanding of nursing informatics through educational offerings, professional organizations, and emerging research.

9. General

Adheres to regular and predictable attendance. Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients. Ensures patient safety.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college of Nursing or Master's degree in non-nursing focus with Informatics Nursing Certification through ANCC. Those without a Master's degree will be required to obtain a Master's in Nursing or Non-nursing focus with certification within 5 years of hire.

DESIRED

Master's degree in Nursing Informatics from an accredited college of nursing, as recognized by the ACEN or CCNE.

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

3-4 yearsof relevant RN experience

DESIRED

1-yearnursing management experience.

1-3 years of informatics experience

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

Registered Nurse (RN) licensed minimally in the state of practice, some positions may require additional state RN licenses.

Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
