Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Human Resources Consultant for the University of Human Resources.

Under the general direction of the Director of HR Business Partner Services the Sr. HR Consultant will independently develop and maintain relationships with the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office Chief of Staff, New Brunswick Chancellor's Office HR Team, and HR professionals within schools and units under the New Brunswick Chancellor. This Sr. HR Consultant role within UHR would be assigned to the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office exclusively and will work with other team members within UHR to ensure transactions are processed in a timely manner.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Ensures that the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office Chief of Staff and the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office HR Team are informed of employment matters involving schools and units under the purview of the NB Chancellor and obtain appropriate approval as required prior to finalization of transactions.
  • Provides consultative and strategic client service to the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office to ensure alignment and compliance with University Human Resources (UHR) polices, procedures, and processes.
  • Provides guidance, support, and direction on change management and resolution; performance management; compensation and classification; recruitment and hiring; training and workplace assessment.
  • Works in tandem with UHR's Policy and Employment Practices Office and the Office of University Labor Relations to provide support on HR policy interpretation and employee relations matters in accordance with applicable university, state, and federal regulations, processes, policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Assists with the investigation and resolution of employee issues and provides guidance on performance management and corrective action procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with contract provisions of staff unions, in consultation and collaboration with the Office of University Labor Relations.
  • Provides a thorough review for accuracy and appropriateness of personnel actions in the ROCS system and provides classification and assistance with the determination of appropriate compensation in accordance with university policies.
  • Serves as the New Brunswick Chancellor's Office representative on UHR projects and initiatives to ensure effective communication and alignment.
  • Participates in special projects to promote, support, strengthen and expand strategic roles and partnerships with clients.
  • Identifies innovative, strategic and effective approaches to assist departments in establishing and meeting administrative goals and mission.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Resources Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a complex human resources environment to include providing consultative advice for exempt and nonexempt employees at all levels of the organization.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in human resource management to include employee and/or labor relations, classification, compensation, recruitment, staffing, performance management, leave administration, training, and compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws, preferably in higher education and/or in a labor environment; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, highly sensitive environment; and have excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize, with thorough attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering exceptional client service.
  • Ability to navigate complex policies, contracts, and legal mandates to assist clients in achieving organization goals.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and foster a positive, productive, and progressive work environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products and HRIS systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working and negotiating with unions; and being part of a unionized environment.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and analyzing the effectiveness of human resources programs.

  • PHR, SPHR, or other Human Resource Management certification.
  • Prior experience in the higher education setting is highly preferred but not required.
